Sofia Baka, MD

Dr. Baka embarked on her journey in oncology with a part-time role at the Kastoria Red Cross emergency department from 1993 to 1995. Her passion for oncology led her to pursue a Pathology Specialty Title at Hippocrates Hospital of Thessaloniki in June 2001. Subsequently, from January 2001 to October 2001, Dr. Baka served as a Scientific Associate at the Oncology - Pulmonology Clinic of Theageniou. Her experience provided her with valuable insights into the field of oncology and pulmonology. Her dedication to advancing in oncology continued as they assumed the role of Honorary Registrar of Oncology at Christie Oncology Hospital from October 2001 to February 2003. Here, under the mentorship of Professor N. Thatcher's Group, Dr. Baka delved into oncology-immunology, focusing on lung cancer. She gained expertise in clinical pharmacology and oncology, particularly in phase I-II studies, during their tenure. From 2003 to 2007, Dr. Baka served as a Specialist Registrar of Oncology at The Christie Oncology Hospital, Manchester. This pivotal role paved the way for her growth, eventually leading to a Consultant position in Oncology. During this period, she handled a wide spectrum of tumors, ranging from breast and ovarian cancer to lung, kidney, and gastrointestinal tract cancers. Her responsibilities included administering high doses of chemotherapy and performing peripheral cell and marrow transplantation, demonstrating her proficiency in clinical pharmacology and oncology. Finally, from 2007 to 2014, Dr. Baka operated as a Freelance Oncologist, leveraging her extensive experience and expertise to provide personalized care to their patients. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to advancing oncology and improving patient outcomes.
