Konstantinos Konstandinidis, MD, PhD, FACS

Dr. Konstantinidis embarked on his journey in medicine at the School of Medicine of the "Aristotle" University of Thessaloniki, graduating in 1981. His early years were marked by a thirst for knowledge and a drive for excellence, leading him to pursue a surgical specialty at the "Riverside Methodist" Hospital in Colombus, OH in collaboration with the Ohio State University. In 1987, Dr. Konstantinidis assumed the role of Chief General Surgery resident at the "Riverside Methodist" Hospital, solidifying his expertise in general surgery. A year later, he obtained his General Surgery specialty, marking the beginning of a remarkable career in surgery. Driven by a passion for advancing surgical techniques, Dr. Konstantinidis completed his doctoral thesis at the Medical School of the "Democritius" University of Thrace, focusing on the "Early results of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy." His thirst for knowledge led him to attend numerous postgraduate seminars worldwide, with a particular emphasis on Robotic Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, and Metabolic Surgery. Dr. Konstantinidis academic journey flourished as he served as an Assistant Professor of General Surgery at Ohio State University, USA, where his dedication and expertise were recognized with the title of Adjunct Professor of Surgery in 2013. Since 1991, Konstantinos has held the esteemed position of Director of the Department of General, Laparoscopic, Bariatric, and Robotic Surgery at the Athens Medical Center. Under his leadership, the department has flourished, becoming a beacon of excellence in surgical innovation. A respected figure in the medical community, Dr. Konstantinidis actively participates in numerous international and domestic scientific societies. He lends his expertise as a reviewer for esteemed journals such as the "Journal of Robotic Surgery," "Obesity Surgery," and "International Journal of computer-assisted Radiology & Surgery and Computer Assisted Surgery." Additionally, he serves as a judge for papers in various scientific conferences and contributes to several scientific councils. Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Konstantinidis has received numerous accolades for his groundbreaking work in medicine and science, both in Greece and abroad. He is renowned for his pioneering use of laser technology and the AESOP 3000 system, ushering in a new era of surgical precision. Notably, he performed the first robotic surgery operations with the da Vinci system in Greece, cementing his legacy as a trailblazer in surgical innovation. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Konstantinidis is deeply committed to social causes, offering his expertise through voluntary medical services with the "Aegean Team" in various Greek islands, including Patmos, Astypalaia, Karpathos, Ios, Kasos, and Ikaria. His unwavering dedication to advancing surgical techniques and improving patient outcomes has made him a respected figure in the field of medicine, leaving an indelible mark on the surgical landscape.
